Banned fashion site SHEIN comeback In India
Fashion brand SHEIN is creating a comeback in India through the marketplace Amazon.
In 2019, the site had to temporarily deter shipping orders and commence customer refunds after a crackdown by Mumbai Customs’ department over accusations that Chinese shopping sites were paying fewer duties than they were required. Over 500 parcels of SHEIN and Club House were then confiscated.
The expropriation order exhibited that a SHEIN warehouse was sealed in Mumbai after officials found it undervaluing and incorrectly declaring wares, according to a 2 July report by Business Standard.
Chinese shopping sites shipping to India were under the scanner for taking advantage of a loophole that permitted Indian citizens to obtain duty-free gifts and samples, those priced under ₹5,000, from overseas. Numerous companies were known to be taking advantage of this provision to avoid paying taxes on the parcels. Companies were also labeling the parcels as business-to-business (B-2-B) couriers as opposed to B-2-C.
In December 2019, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade told that packages marked as gift items obtained from overseas will be subject to import duties. DGFT’s order caused a provisional setback to shopping sites.
Then, in June 2020, as part of a bigger crackdown by the Indian government—numerous Chinese apps widely famous in India were banned in the fallout of escalating stress on the Indo-China border. These included Tiktok, AliExpress, WeChat, Weibo, Shein, among others. The apps were directed to be discarded from Google Play-Store and Apple App Store.
Now, Amazon Fashion has catalogued Shein as portion of its Prime Day 2021 sale that is set to-go live between July 26 and 27. To be convinced, Shein will be catalogued on Amazon as a seller.
